One very jarring example that happened to me personally was Joker having a big fight with Mishima during his confidant and then the very next day, Mishima acting like they are best buds as part of the main story ramp up for the school trip without any mention of what happened between them last night and ofc once you finally continue his confidant he is pissed at you because of that big fight that you had. In fact, in some cases like Mishima or Ryuji, the progress you make with them in their confidants can be completely at odds with how they act in the main story. They have no bearing on how the rest of story plays out or how characters react to you. Iwai is another character where you got to jump through hoops to even get is confidant started and while customizing guns are nice, weaponizing Personas can also make his confidant bonus not as pivotal. Guns are still kind of situational though and it's the same reason why I rank both him and Iwai in the B-ranks. Shinya I would say used to fall into the same camp as Ohya and Chihaya in Vanilla-5, but Royal actually gave guns a buff where your ammo refills at the end of each battle. The problem is her's is nighttime only and you got to jump through hoops to get it kick-started, that by the time you max her out, what she gives you is really redundant. Sojiro's basically allows you free SP recovery items, but it is a pain in the butt to actually max out.Ĭhihaya is a weird beast because on paper, her bonuses are super useful since she's all about helping to expedite your ranking of the rest. Takemi offers discounts at her shop which is really useful. Yoshida makes Persona Negotiations easier and his Confidant secretly auto-advances so his is pretty easy to complete. Mishima is basically mandatory if you want to keep all the characters levels to par. Hifumi and Kawakami both offer the best confidant bonuses bar none, it's not even a joke. To be fair, that is true for almost all games with side quests/contents, but it's especially noticeable in Persona because it focuses on character relationships when it comes to S-links/confidants.Įxcluding Party members, If I had to do a tier list of most useful to least useful confidants bonuses I would go: ![]() Pretty much regardless of what you do with confidants (at least in P5 and P4), you are gonna get the same story beats, character interactions and ending. It's as if main story and confidant stories are happening at completely isolated instances. ![]() Click to shrink. That's an easy argument actually.
